Today, there are many air purifiers and air disinfection devices available on the market. Ranging from smaller devices built for at home use to larger devices created to sanitize the air in laboratories and clinics, there is an air purifier for every person and location’s needs.

In any environment that people pass through, pathogens are constantly being introduced to the air. In environments where the risk of infection is high, it’s essential that the air is continuously disinfected. Novaerus portable air disinfection devices are designed to do exactly that — and more — thanks to their innovative NanoStrike® technology.

What is NanoStrike®?

NanoStrike® is the revolutionary plasma-based technology that powers every Novaerus portable air disinfection device: the Novaerus Protect 200 (NV200), the Novaerus Protect 900 (NV900), and the Novaerus Defend 1050.

How does NanoStrike® work?

NanoStrike® plasma coils deliver a strike that works to quickly eliminate airborne pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Novaerus’ NanoStrike® technology is effective on molecules as small as one nanometer and it inactivates airborne pathogens at the DNA level in a sub-second time frame.

What are the benefits of NanoStrike®?

NanoStrike® is exponentially faster than other inactivation technologies because it destroys airborne pathogens in a sub-second time frame, making Novaerus devices the first line of defence against airborne viruses and bacteria.

Additionally, NanoStrike® stops self-healing, meaning cells cannot become viable as infectious agents again. Its multiple pathogen inactivation processes guarantee no antimicrobial resistance can develop in the future.

Although Novaerus’ NanoStrike® technology is incredibly powerful, it’s gentle and is safe to use around even the most vulnerable of people.

How much does it cost to maintain a NanoStrike® device?

Novaerus offers the lowest cost of ownership when it comes to air disinfection devices. This is because all Novaerus air disinfection devices use ultra-low energy. They have no installation costs and maintenance required is minimal. Filters in the Novaerus Defend 1050 will require replacement at various stages as outlined in your user manual.

In terms of cleaning, Novaerus recommends the following in reference to the Novaerus Defend 1050:

“The unit should be visually inspected for accumulation of dirt and dust on the vent grills that are located in front and above the unit chassis on a monthly basis. It is recommended that the unit be cleaned using a vacuum cleaning brush from the outside of the unit to remove any dirt and dust that may have accumulated on the grills. Clean the body of the Defend 1050 regularly to prevent dust from collecting.”

Novaerus air disinfection devices are not only simple, but cost-effective, to maintain.

The Novaerus Defend 1050 is an FDA 510(k) Class II medical device. What does this mean?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has created classifications for around 1,700 different generic types of devices, which are then grouped into sixteen medical specialties called “panels.” According to the FDA:

“Each of these generic types of devices is assigned to one of three regulatory classes based on the level of control necessary to assure the safety and effectiveness of the device.”

Examples of Class I devices include bandages and non-powered wheelchairs. Class II is reserved for more advanced medical devices, such as CT scanners. The Novaerus Defend 1050 is the first device which uses NanoStrike® to receive this level of clearance from the FDA.

How is the Novaerus Defend 1050 different from other Novaerus devices?

All Novaerus air disinfection devices use NanoStrike® technology, but there are a couple of features which set the Novaerus Defend 1050 apart from the Novaerus Protect 200 (NV200) and the Novaerus Protect 900 (NV900).

The Novaerus Protect 200 (NV200) has a single-speed fan and is designed for use in small rooms (including medical reception desks, hospital bathrooms, medical supply rooms, medical offices, and patient bedsides). For medium rooms (such as patient rooms, operating theatres, nurses stations, examination rooms, and hospital common areas), the Novaerus Protect 900 (NV900) provides effective coverage and also features two-speed fan control.

The Novaerus Defend 1050, however, was created to disinfect air in a large room. In addition to NanoStrike® technology and five-speed fan control, the Novaerus Defend 1050 also has a triple-stage Camfil® filter system. The system comprises three different filters (including a HEPA filter and a carbon filter). This provides a combined solution for air disinfection, particle removal, and odour mitigation.

This device is a free-standing unit with wheels and a two metre cord, making it easy to transport and move as and when required. The Novaerus Defend 1050 is suitable for use in operating theatres, intensive care units, emergency rooms, in vitro fertilization labs, patient wards, and senior living facilities.

What warranty does the Novaerus Defend 1050 come with?

The Novaerus Defend 1050 offers best-in-class performance, operating consistently and effectively throughout its lifespan. It’s an incredibly advanced air disinfection device that is built to last. Novaerus offers a one year limited warranty for the Novaerus Defend 1050.

Novaerus’ NanoStrike® technology has been tested by independent laboratories and proven to safely and effectively reduce bacteria, viruses, allergens, volatile organic compounds, and particulate matter — this is what makes Novaerus air disinfection devices a trusted choice for healthcare professionals in over sixty countries.
